Coffee Hazelnut Smoothie

I am NOT a morning person. I can’t believe its 7:20 and I am blogging. The only time I was “a morning person” (at 5:00 am) was when I woke up after a party and my friends told me that “I didn’t hit my first ever hangover yet”. Which, for the record, was my only hangover and I am proud of that.

When I was teaching, my students KNEW I wasn’t a morning person and knew how much coffee I had when I greeted them at the door. I had a student BRING ME COFFEE the very next day, because she said “my mom’s the same way”. She brought me Starbucks. I did not tell her to do this, but her mom wrote in it and said “thanks”. It was not even teacher appreciation week! She became one of my not-favorites-but-one-of-my-awesome-kids.

So. With all of that gone. I have a really good recipe for a Coffee Hazelnut Smoothie. I really like smoothies and I am a hoarder of cooking books (but sometimes never use them…) Last summer, I was in Williams and Somona and saw Bobby Flay’s Fit cookbook. I am a huge Bobby Flay fan and I knew I had to get it. And I did because I have AMAZING self control when buying and not impulsive AT. ALL. He has a Coffee Hazelnut smoothie on page 56. It is AMAZING. Tragedy struck this morning when I wanted said smoothie recipe and I did not have all the ingredients. So, this is what I made.

Bobby’s recipe

1.5 cups of coffee (cold)
1 cup of milk of choice (I had coconut)
1.5 tablespoons of chocolate hazelnut spread
1 tablespoon of chia seeds
Ice

Now, since I didn’t have all of the ingredients, I had to inprovise on the spot. So this is what I had in hand. It is a very good smoothie nonetheless! Now to sit back and watch the westiepoo begin his morning patrol around the house.
